Brief description of The Umbrella Cafe CICWe are a social enterprise cafe, based within a community centre. We are an inclusive and accessible space and welcome all in. Our menu is a pay what you can model, we cook with as much surplus and donated produce as we can and we make everything in house. We support students with SEN conditions and work with volunteers in the Cafe and kitchen. We run a Social Pantry project two days a week and our mission is to reduce social isolation, food poverty and food waste within the Whitstable community. We are a not for profit company and are run by three paid directors with a small team of paid staff who work frontline. We are currently funded by Social Enterprise Kent and The National Lottery.
Hours required25/week, including weekends. Flexible.
Main purposes of job  Part of our frontline team; you will have excellent communication skills welcoming customers, visitors and users into the space and be a positive role model for our community cafe and our values.   Serve customers their food and drinks, including the preparation of hot drinks; ensuring that each customers and service users receives the same great quality on their visit.   Ensure that the space is a clean and safe environment for all our customers and service users.
Key tasks Preparing and serving drinks, including the preparation of hot drinks. We serve coffees from our Batch Brew machine and a variety of loose leaf teas.     Cleaning the inside and garden areas of the Cafe spaces, ensuring all tables and surrounding areas and safe, clean and hygienic for all customers and service users.   Take customers orders and handle payments via our EPOS till system.   Uphold the highest standards of health and safety, cleanliness and professionalism and use your own initiative to respond quickly to issues or challenges that may arise when you are on duty.     Respond promptly and professionally to any customer feedback, comments or complaints.   Check that all café facilities, equipment or furnishings are in good order and to report any damage.   Ensuring the café is fully stocked and can meet the menu at all times, notifying the senior front of house team member or kitchen staff of any shortages.   Performing simple kitchen preparation tasks under supervision from senior kitchen team.
Key development opportunities    Successful applicants will be fully supervised by senior front of house and kitchen staff and our front of house manager. They will have the opportunity to learn more about working within a hospitality environment including a direct customer facing role, learning skills on an EPOS till and simple kitchen skills. 
Relevant skills and abilities      Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be positive about embracing challenges and change, have robust organisational skills and be looking for development and training opportunities within the hospitality sector.
