Welcomer

Turner Contemporary

At Turner Contemporary, our mission is art inspiring change. The arts challenge our thinking
and help us to see the world differently enabling opportunities for discussion, debate, learning and listening. Our values are that Turner Contemporary is:

  • Enterprising – we create value for ourselves, our community and our partners by being responsive to new opportunities; we encourage collaboration, creativity and initiative from our team
  • Welcoming – we are friendly and warm, while maintaining professionalism in practice and behaviour; we ensure that the principles of inclusivity and equality are evident in how we work with our colleagues, audiences and communities
  • Questioning – our philosophy is one of investigation, being attuned to audience need, unlocking understanding and asking tough questions, especially of ourselves
  • Belonging – equity, equality, diversity and inclusion are essential to our ethos now and in the future.

Welcomers are key in delivering the gallery’s mission and values and in supporting the operation of the gallery.

In response to the pandemic the gallery has an increased need for staff to manage the checking-in of visitors and to support visitors in wayfinding around the building.

With our new booking in system put in place to manage capacity due to Covid-19, Welcomers will greet and check visitors in. They will support our Visitor Engagement Managers and Engagement Assistants to ensure that every visitor feels welcome and able to make use of the new booking system.

With a number of brand new artworks in the public realm set to launch during 2021, the Welcomers will learn key facts and insights and work to inspire visitors to expand their trip beyond Turner Contemporary. They will work, at times, stationed outside at these artworks and will support visitors with wayfinding and be knowledgeable about other attractions and services locally. They will on occasion support with evaluation either in the gallery or at artworks off-site.

Welcomers will promote the retail offer of the gallery and the events programme. They will be professional and friendly, interested in the arts and the work of Turner Contemporary and keen to share their knowledge and interest with our visitors.

Welcomers will be encouraged to share their perspectives and support organisational change linked to key issues around Sustainability and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
