Kitchen Assistant

MIND in Bexley

You will need to be enthusiastic at cooking and an interest in vegetarian and vegan food.

You will be working under the lead chef and other kitchen staff in all areas of food preparation progressing to cooking and presentation.  You will also have some customer facing roles taking food to the tables and clearing used dishes.  You will be working to order in the café when open and also for our Food Friends project work to include delivering food with other staff for our mental health outreach.

You will need to undertake Health and Safety and Food safety certificates and be knowledgeable about the roles and responsibilities in these areas.  High quality, delicious and beautifully presented food is key to our approach and you will be trained to work independently and as part of a team cooking from scratch. 

You will learn about costing and pricing dishes and will work with kitchen staff to ensure stock is organised, rotated, maintained and ordering is up to date.  You will be instructed on keeping a record of wastage and contribute to strategies to keep this to a minimum.

You will work with kitchen staff to maintain kitchen records including prep lists, order sheets and fridge/freezer temperature record sheets.

 You will undertake a programme of basic skills training and will work towards the correct standards for the tasks expected.  You will also be responsible for keeping your work area clean and will ensure that used dishes are washed using appropriate methods and clean/dry dishes are re-stocked in the correct place in the kitchen and front of house.

You will need to show understanding and commitment to the ethos behind Revival and to fully support the charity aspect of the business and the various schemes we run such as the Pay it Forward.  You will also undertake basic mental health training as part of our on-boarding package. The position is for 25-30 hours per week and will include weekend working
